AGHORA SAADHU

AGHORA SAADHU

Aghori’s Lifestyle

Aghori
After seeing Bala’s Naan Kadavul, I was quite interested in knowing the lifestyle of Aghori’s. Below are the detailed history and stories of Aghori’s.

Undisputed Religion’
It’s not uncommon for humans to eat flesh. Since times immemorial, history has redeemed that in order to survive, homo sapiens have retorted to different means of dietary functions.
Some have restricted themselves to being vegetarians. Other non-vegetarians, as if to strike a balance between the two, believe in practicing a subtle form of cannibalism — all in the name for inner peace and tranquility.
Its hard to believe, but the fact remains that despite improvements in the Hindu society’s horrid caste system, that believed in racially bifurcating people depending on which caste they belonged to, there still exists sections of educated, or shall we say emancipated men and women who allow the Aghoris to practice the grotesque act of devouring a piece of dead rotten flesh. Especially if the corpse has just been reduced to ashes.

The Aghori
The Aghori ascetic considers himself to be a symbol of the Lord Shiva (the last from the trinity of Brahma and Vishnu according to Hindu Mythology). He goes naked or is dressed in the shroud of a corpse, covers himself in the ashes of the cremation ground, (a polluting for an orthodox Brahmin, and his, and sometimes macabre, ritual actions are symbols of his non-dualistic beliefs. The corpse upon which he meditates is a symbol of his own body and the corpse devouring ritual is a symbol of the transcendence of his lower self and a realization of the greater, all pervading self.

Their Doctrine
Because of this monistic doctrine, Aghoris strongly believe that there are no opposites in this world and that the conventional Hindu distinctions between purity and impurity are actually an illusion of some sort. They live on cremation grounds, smearing themselves with the ashes of corpses and eating from a cranial begging bowl. They are attributed with eating corpse flesh, which may be a once in a lifetime ritual act, and meditating seated upon a corpse and thereby gaining control over the corpse’s spirit. They have also been accused of practicing human sacrifice. The Aghoris claim to perform a secret Tantric ritual involving sex with a lower caste, menstruating woman during, which the Aghori becomes Shiva and his partner Shiva’s female energy or “Shakti”. The purpose of embracing pollution in these practices is realization of non-duality through transcending social taboos and seeing the illusory nature of all conventional categories.
Most people who ‘understand and accept’ this religious act of subdued cannibalism believe that Aghoris can be accepted in society. As living in a democracy, it’s not uncommon to observe such eerie acts of religion. Since practicing this needs loads of perseverance, Aghoris are very small in number.
These devout followers of Lord Shiva, (the last from the divine trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva), are convinced that this is not a cannibalistic act. Since the dead and often rotten flesh is not eaten raw, rather thawed in liquor, untouched by the human hand, and consumed by a certain self professed ‘chosen’ number of people. These people look for small pieces of flesh at the Hindu cremation grounds and are identified by their shiny attire. Since, of course, the idea of eating dead flesh is quite repulsive, this rite is not practiced often, only once or twice in a span of four to five years. Moreover, they believe that this act gives one an absolute feeling of catharsis, destroying every shred of hatred and bringing with it immense divine foresight. Some food for thought!!!!

Life..

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become.
You never know who these people may be (possibly your roommate, neighbor, professor, long lost friend, lover, or even a complete stranger), but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way.

And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but on reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, will power, or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved,
straight, flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable; but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience, help to create who you are and who you become. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important lessons we may learn.

If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious when you open your heart. If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.

Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything
that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and actually listen.

Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Never be miserly with love, give, give and give is the motto of Love. And strangely, when you simply give for the pleasure of giving it brings a sweet peace all its own.
Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great person and believe in yourself, for if you don't believe in yourself it will be hard for others to believe in you. You can make of your life anything you wish. God created you for success. If you believe
you are a pathetic loser, you will be a very pathetic loser!

Create your own life and then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets. Most importantly,
if you love someone tell them! For you never know what tomorrow may have in store. And learn a lesson in life each day you live. Today is the tomorrow you were worried about yesterday. Was it worth it?

Evolution did not enhance the distance between us, and the pure forms of emotion. Our misconceptions do. To love, romantically or otherwise, all you need to do is to give. Love
is all about giving; taking comes into the picture only when there is a transaction, when you give in exchange for something you need. As for true love, it wells up from within us, like a spring from the mountainside. You don't give it to another in exchange for what you need (to be loved?), for
all you can do with Love is to give it. The mountain-spring doesn't first check out if there is a proper channel for it to reach the sea, it simply wells out of the side of the mountain because that is its nature. It finds its' way to the sea for that is the nature of necessity.

Life is full of beauty and misery; it is your choice how you want to see it. So when you come down to it, it is YOU who decides what it is. Being able to be alone and silent you need to have a great richness within you. But if you need people, music TV and yes, even the `Net around all the time, to keep you from thinking, experiencing and living then I guess there isn't much, or isn't much that you think is good there. noise and people are an escape from recognizing the emptiness within.

Solitude is a choice we make. The world is full of people, very good people mostly. The bitterness of the lonely comes from within when they mis-perceive the beauty of people and the world. Look for good and u will find good. Unfortunately, the converse is also true.

Life is not a dilemma. Life is to live, to love, to laugh before we go on to a better place. We make our heaven and hell here when we refuse to recognize and accept God's gifts. So open your eyes and heart and live a happy life in the heaven you create for yourself on earth.

I do get so upset when I hear kids say, write, or think sad things about life. Life should be an interesting adventure, both the good and the bad. The `bad' only teaches us how to be better and so have a better life.

You ask about Fate. Well we are all born with our individual genes in a particular environment. Then we arrive at certain cross roads in life and we choose our fate from the road we take at this cross road. Each one of us is given choices. Some choices are already more or less set by our having become a particular type of person from our previous choices. One is bound to make decisions, choices and that is what we call fate. We can also learn from the wrong turns we take at life's cross roads. So that when we are faced with similar choices we can make wiser choices. Thats what is called free will.

The unknown is not really unknown, not if you believe and have faith in God's good intentions. I KNOW that whatever happens in my life is for my good because God loves me. If sometimes I cry and moan it is only coz I forget this at those times. But if I look back on my life I see that every rough period in my life was always what took me to a better end; either by making me a better person or by teaching me and so helping me make wiser choices in my life.

No, we do not have the key to our future coz then there would have been no excitement in life. Do you enjoy a thriller movie if you know the story?
